What Redhawks means to Adriana Mendoza, 2025 Women’s Elite Rugby Player, Chicago Tempest, former Valley Panthers Player:
The Rugby Oregon Red Hawks will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember the excitement and anticipation I felt every year, eagerly waiting for the summer so I could be part of something bigger than myself.
My time with the Red Hawks, especially during the GNC, opened so many doors. It was there that I first caught the attention of coaches, leading to the many collegiate offers that followed. What made the Red Hawks so special was how they balanced competition with a sense of camaraderie. It wasn’t just about winning; it was about growing together, supporting one another, and constantly pushing to be the best versions of ourselves.
Many of us went on to represent the USA in both 15s and 7s, and countless players received opportunities to play at top D1 schools. I will always be grateful for the Red Hawks. They didn’t just help me become a better rugby player; they helped shape the person I am today. Thanks to them, I learned to be more competitive, resilient, and determined. These lessons led me to play in the 7s Rugby World Cup, win a collegiate 7s national title, and now, to play with the Chicago Tempest in the professional women’s 15s league.
To all the current Red Hawks—good luck on your journey, wherever it takes you. The Red Hawks have helped teach me not just the game of rugby, but the game of life. Remember, no dream is too big. With hard work, heart, and belief in yourself, anything is possible.
